![]() My boys are too old now for decorating the eggs and for the Easter Egg hunts. A pity. ![]() This one is purely for fun. And, two flowers, the Tulip and the Lily. They bloom in the Spring. The Lily in particular is associated with Easter.

![]() When I was little, The Wizard of Oz came on TV once a year. It was an event. No VCR's, no DVD's, no TIVO. You made plans to watch it when it was on, or you missed it for another year. We had a black & white TV. I didn't know anyone who had a color television. I didn't see the movie on a color TV until I was in high school. When Dorothy opened the farmhouse door into Oz, my mouth dropped open. I had never known that Oz was in color! That the Emerald City really was emerald! That the 'orse of a different color really did change colors. That Dorothy's dress was blue gingham. What a revelation! And what a vivid memory! A memory similar to when I got my first pair of glasses at age 12. I could see the leaves on the trees! They weren't just a big green blur! Wow! I think many people of my generation share these memories. I did this with the Sketch Club app. I tried to use muted colors for the room to subtly suggest that it was the TV only that was in black & white. I remember our home in 1962 being very drab. We lived in a 4-plex in inner city Indianapolis. The heat in the house was from a coal-fired furnace. That house no longer exists. It was razed to build a parking lot for the RCA factory on the corner of, if I remember correctly, La Salle and Meridian. Or was it Michigan? The RCA factory and all the other factories, where the men worked blue collar, Union jobs, right out of high school? Closed. All those jobs went overseas. The grocery store long-closed. The movie theater now XXX. The blue-collar neighborhood I remember is now considered "dangerous." Pull the jobs out of a community, don't replace them with living wage jobs, and see what happens. The Wicked Witch couldn't have done it any better. |
