When I refer to "field sketches," I mean sketches done quickly while out and about. Coffee shops. Waiting rooms. Airports. DMV. You name it. Here are some recent ones, dashed off, the model oblivious. In a drawing, they are anonymous. So, no harm done. Scroll down to see all six. These were all created on my iPad, with the Sketch Club app.
While waiting for my car's oil change, I observed this young man, huddled intently over his "mobile device." Every once in a while, he would look up, blink, then crouch secretively over it again. I truly began to wonder just what in the world he was looking at! But, perhaps he is just nearsighted.
We ate at a sports bar the other day. Loud, and we were the only ones at a table. This young man, sitting at the bar, was so back-lit as to be in almost complete dark silhouette.
The local coffee shop hosts a church college group each Sunday night. I like to hang out and sketch. They sing, and the preacher shares a message.
I enjoy the music immensely.
