Mona Koban takes a bit of explaining. Koban is the profile name of one of the artists on Sketch Club. So, here is the title of this particular contest: Koban Co-op Compo. And, here is the description: "Have you ever dreamt of doing a co-op with an incredible artist like Koban?? This compo is about to make your dreams come true!! Koban has made 3 WIPS available of a sketch she's started but not yet finished. Your mission is to pick up where she's left off and create the finished work! " A WIP, by the way, is a Work In Progress, and a Co-op is a collaboration. Since I adore Koban's work, I had to give it a try. In response, I created Mona Koban. I based her on this WIP template, keeping only the face: |
Sometimes, an artist just has to have fun. Here are some recent pieces that really were just for fun -- as a response to a Daily Challenge or a Compo (contest) on the Sketch Club site. I did this for a Sketch Club contest titled: Animal Mix Compo. The rules? Just mix someone, anyone, with an animal and see what you come up with. A mermaid is not a particularly original take on human/animal remix, but I couldn't resist. This started as a one-minute gesture drawing from the lifedrawing studio. The final version shown here took almost 2 hours, which for me is actually a long time. I will close with these two lovely ladies. One is a Disney Princess Redesign, and the other an original superhero. Now, go out there and have some fun!
